AIMS AND SCOPE
Acta Koreana is a peer-reviewed, indexed journal of Korean humanities research published in English twice annually, in June and December, by Academia Koreana at Keimyung University. The journal seeks to promote Korean humanities research and scholarly communication among Korea Studies scholars in Korea and in the various Korea Studies communities around the world.
Acta Koreana welcomes research on Korea in the fields of literature, history, visual and performing arts, anthropology, geography, religion, philosophy, and adjacent fields employing humanistic research methods. While the journal publishes research on any time period, submissions concerning Korea prior to 1945 are especially encouraged.
The journal places a premium on research built upon close reading of primary sources, active and critical engagement with secondary literatures, and theoretically informed inquiry. In this light, submissions to Acta Koreana must engage primary, secondary, and theoretical texts in at least English and Korean, and when appropriate, Literary Sinitic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other relevant language.
Acta Koreana publishes research articles, book reviews, translations of fiction, non-fiction, and primary sources, and critical introductions to primary texts of scholarly. The journal also encourages the submission of critical essays and reflections on questions of theory and method.
