The quiet late night is holding its breath. On a sandy beach by the river is pitched a big tent, in which the women are gathered, intoxicated by the magic incantations of a sorceress. Their faces show undoubted signs of sad excitement, and of tiredness such as one feels as the dawn approaches. The sorceress, in such ecstasy that she seems to have turned into a disembodied soul, dances round, her ritual garment swirling lightly. -from "Picture of a Shaman Sorceress" (Mu'!)'ii to; 1936) (Kim Tongni 82)
